Ridgefield NWR 04-08-11

What a beautiful day!!  I decided to spend the afternoon at Ridgefield...  There was a little of everything out and about...

Wood Ducks tried to hide in the grasses...

Pied-billed Grebe

 Marsh Wren

American Bittern

On my second trip around I was psyched to see a Yellow-headed Blackbird across the pond from me!  First of the year for me... (Though I heard one on my last trip there).

I was even more psyched when he flew across the pond towards me and landed in a bush ten feet from me... Unfortunately I only got bad photos because of branches and lighting and such.

Oh well, still an awesome bird to see!  Another yellow bird has been back in action at Ridgefield...

American Goldfinch

Birds weren't the only creatures enjoying the sun...  This garter snake tried slithering up this tree but kept sliding back down.  Eventually he seemed to give up.

And of course there were turtles everywhere...

Back in the trees a Great Horned Owl gave me the evil eye...

Great trip!

    AND the OWL..exceptional--
Had a snake in the yard yesterday the birds went nutz I went out and helped to escourt him out of the yard--a black rat snake which should be called a black bird snake for the way they will eat eggs and chicks!
