Ridgefield NWR 04-19-11

I went up to Ridgefield yesterday morning and got a heavy dose of springtime!  I took way too many photos so I'm trying out some collages this time around...

Cinnamon Teal, Red-winged Blackbird, Tree Swallow, White-breasted Nuthatch, Song Sparrow

I saw my first goslings too!  Freaking adorable.

I saw at least two male Yellow-headed Blackbirds...

Virginia Rail, Greater Yellowlegs, Wilson's Snipes, Ring-necked Duck

Tree Swallows, Common Yellowthroat, American Goldfinch, Violet-green Swallows

I took some quick shots of a Great Horned Owl baby too...

There were plenty of swallows and I saw my first Cliff Swallows of the year.  On my way out I had to drive through a big group of geese and this one stood out:

I know there have been quite a few reports this winter/spring of possible Barnacle X Cackling hybrids, but who knows...  He's neat-looking regardless.

Good times!  Happy Spring!

  3. Wow, you had a great day of birding and sightings. The baby owl is my favorite and the chicks are adorable. And how cool to see the Virginia Rail out in the open. I love the mosaics, well done!
