I headed over to the next county this morning in search of the Summer Tanager that was reported yesterday.. It had been around for a couple days according to local residents and I was hoping he, yes HE, a bright red male, would stick around for a third day. I spent a couple hours wandering the strange little suburban neighborhood with some of Portland's top birders. Every time someone introduced themselves I would recognize the name and feel even more intimidated...
But alas, no one saw the tanager today. At least not yet. On the other hand, I did pick up a new bird... The neighborhood was brimming with Evening Grosbeaks!
They're not great photos, but whatever. They were cool. They are my 199th species for the year... I'm hoping 200 is something rad.
This afternoon I took the dogs to Sauvie Island... Didn't take tons of photos but here's a couple I like...
Cedar Waxwing
Black-headed Grosbeak
Cooper's Hawk
more Cooper's Hawk

Jen,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, both dialogue and images, but, sometimes you are sharpening them a tad too much (like the long range bird-in-the-sky shots of the most recent post. I'm not suggesting that you change anything much with so much so right going on...just maybe watch that one photo adjustment, eh?
Best, Mr. X.

Dear Mr. X: I could give a rat's ass! I play around with my photos so that I like them. Not so that you do. Way to be a coward and leave an anonymous comment. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHey Jen, I just finished catching up on all your posts over the last week. I love your pics...the shots of the baby House Finches are wonderful! So sweet!
ReplyDeleteWow- Mr. X's comments were so helpful, huh? Nice retort.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos. Isn't it great when the sun comes out around here? Let's hope it happens today...
Wow,lucky you to see both the Grosbeaks, they are beautiful birds. I love the Cooper hawk shots, awesome flight photos.
ReplyDeleteI bet anonymous is a regular to your blog. Google has been having a problem with their sign in. I've left a couple anonymous comments myself without knowing it. Really nice shot of the Coop. My mother says we used to have Evening Grosbeaks all the time in the 60s. I haven't seen one in Southeastern MA ever. I've only seen them in Minnesota and VT. Too bad cause it is a beautiful bird.
ReplyDeleteMR X, grow up and stop sniveling!!!
ReplyDeleteITS Not like you're paying her bills, you got NADA to say to her!!
Meanwhile back at the ranch...WOW love the Grosbeaks, I only get to see those guys when Im out West!! Great on the Hawk Sky Watch too--excellent photos.
