No more peanuts for you!

This morning I was at the store getting some bird seed and I thought, hmm, maybe I should pick up some peanuts for the scrub-jays.  Had I known the chaos this would cause, I may have decided differently.  Nah, I still would have bought the peanuts.

It started off entertaining with the scrub-jays making a ruckus, dashing in and out of the yard with beaks full of peanuts.

Everything seemed to be gum drops and candy canes... Til about an hour later when I peeked outside only to find a full blown scrub-jay fight reminiscent of the great coot fight of earlier this year.

These guys are brutal!  It kind of stressed me out that I might finally see a bird peck another bird to death...

The fight broke up when something scared all the birds out of the yard...  Phew.  Yeah, so now I'm thinking peanuts just make them crazy.  Anyone else have this problem?

  1. Oh my goodness, I've never seen such a thing! I think you are right, peanuts must drive them out of their minds. You did manage to capture some outstanding battle images. Love the double peanuts in the beak shot. I hope your backyard is back to its happy place.

  2. The neighbors feed peanuts to the squirrels. The squirrels dig up all the potted plants, throw out the flowers, and then "plant" the peanuts in their place!
