Yesterday morning I rode my bike over to Whitaker Ponds to work on my motorless list. I was really hoping for the Black Phoebe but could not find it though someone found it later that morning. Ah well, I did fill in some duck gaps on my list: Ring-necked Duck, Hooded Merganser, and Wood Duck.
The trees were thick with Yellow-rumped Warblers, Cedar Waxwings, and singing Bewick's Wrens...
This morning I took the dogs for a nice walk along Broughton Beach where there was not a whole lot going on... The sunrise was okay.
I saw the most Common Goldeneyes I've seen in awhile- I think I counted fourteen. A couple of the males were doing some courtship displays for three unimpressed females...
Elsewhere a group of seven were just out cruising in the sunshine...
Down the beach some crows and gulls were working together to get some Bud Light out of a garbage bag.
Eventually they realized that Bud Light is terrible and moved on. That was about it. In other news I just got a juicer and made my first batch of orange/carrot juice. I used three of each, costing $1.66 total, and made 26 ounces of delicious juice.
Now taking recommendations for other tasty concoctions! Good times!

Those bird glasses are awesome, I wants me some! I think you can't go wrong with watermelon in the juicer, unless of course you don't dig the H2Omelon. Nice Bewick's shot, I like his raggedy tail.
ReplyDeleteWatermelon, huh... I don't think I've ever bought a watermelon in the winter.. I'll have to try it.
DeleteJen, you are doing some great birding by bike. I love your wood ducks shots, they are beautiful/ And neat capture of the courting display of Goldeneyes. The orange/carrot juice sound delicious. Great post and photos, Happy Birding!
ReplyDeleteGreat outting Jen!! Love your wood ducks and the displaying Golden Eyes. I think the crows would like a Corona with lime better!!
ReplyDeleteLike Lauren Watermelon is my very fav for the juicer, add some Mango for texture!!
Mango sounds awesome- will definitely try that too!
DeleteI would take a wood duck sighting any day of the week!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Wood Ducks! The juice looks yummy.
ReplyDeleteYour glass is cool! I like to put some green in my juice. Spinach and lettuce are easy to hide, especially with orange in there. I also like apple and cucumber (when in season). When I was on a juicing kick I would do a green, orange, apple, cucumber, and carrot. It's all good together. Oh, and a bit of lemon can be good too :)
ReplyDeleteYum, yeah I definitely want greens in there- I'll have to try cucumber too.. Thanks for the suggestions!
DeleteAnother lovely selection for your 'motorless' list. Have fun with the juicer.
ReplyDeleteNice Bewick's shot, and I highly recommend a carrot, celery, ginger and or tumeric, and green kale concoction. Pricy, but the greens are worth it! Use half a bunch for one large glass of juice.
ReplyDeleteFunny I made a juice earlier with carrots, celery, beets, ginger and some lemon squeezes. I'll def try it with kale though, thanks!
DeleteI love the antics of breeding birds. They remind us of how silly humans can also be. I love your shot of the golden eyes. Great capture of two silly men.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering who was throwing all the trash on the ground. It looks like its those darn partying, drunken crows again.
