Hot crows.

It's been a strange week... First of all it's been hot.  Like twenty degrees hotter than normal (i.e. 100 degrees).   Second, my friends are still in town and I'm trying to hang out with them whenever I'm not working.  Third, I found a house!  Been wading through all kinds of paperwork and signing stuff and all that nonsense.

Anyway, yesterday when I got home from work the neighborhood crows were panting...

It was about 7:00 and the thermometer still read 96...  This next crow seems to have some growths near its mouth..

Alright, now I have to go fax 22 pages of mumbo jumbo to someone, and then head over to the house for the inspection.  I assure you I will have more birdy goodness to share soon... Till then, enjoy this sticker I noticed on my morning dog walk:

Good times!

  1. Congrats on the house! Will you be constructing the best bird feeder station in PDX? You need Brambling for your yard list.

Its hot here too. Good thing Im working from home today. The crap growing out of the crow reminds me of avian pox, which albatross chicks get on Midway. Its a mosquito-borne disease that causes gnarly growths, but goes away if the bird lives long enough.

    1. Thanks! Yes, the feeders will be awesome. And it's right at the base of a butte so I'm hoping I can catch some wayward migrants and higher elevation birds slumming it...

      Avian pox... Gross.

  2. Congrats on the house, Jen! Is it still in Portland? I hope you get lots of great yard birds and the dogs will have a nice yard too? Maryland has had it share of hot days, I know how you feel. Poor Crows. Have a great weekend and happy birding!
