Ridgefield NWR.

I finally made it out birding this morning!  I went up to Ridgefield for a couple hours to get away from housework.  It was very wintery feeling there, with those blueish cloudy skies and chilly air...  Not the best for photos but still good birding!

I don't remember seeing the teasel with these little green growths before- is it part of the teasel or something growing on it?

I watched a couple of coyotes following the same trail they used all summer, despite the fact that it's rather wet now...

There were Red-tailed Hawks everywhere, but never found a Rough-legged.  Most were just silhouettes anyway...

A family of four raccoons crept by through the tall grass...

A dark morph Red-tailed Hawk was the last interesting bird I saw...

It was nice to get out birding after being so busy the last couple weeks!  Good times!

  1. What, you left your house?! I think the teasel seeds are sprouting before they fell off the plant. It was so mild and warm a couple of weeks ago. I saw it last week and was puzzled as well. I saw on the Ridgefield Flickr group some people commented on it too.

  2. Hi Jen, glad you got out of the house for some birding. The house work can wait. Love the hawks and the coyote. The heron is a pretty shot. Looks like a great day, happy birding!

  4. Ha! Before my eyes focussed on the picture in looked like that Great Blue Heron was standing in a shallow stream that was hugely stocked with fish. What a paradise that would be for him...

Lovely shots, hope you're settling in better n' a House Wren

  6. Looks like a really nice birding/nature outing! That growth on the teasel is interesting, I've never seen that before. It looks like some sort of water greenery.
