I spent the last couple of mornings up on Larch Mountain wandering clearcuts, logging roads, and other sketchy areas. My focus areas were Larch Mountain Road and Brower Road, where I found some great birds but never heard my target, Sooty Grouse. Wednesday morning was spooky and foggy while yesterday morning was bright and sunny. Here ya go...
Western Tanager
Goldfinch chest bump
Western Bluebird
White-crowned Sparrow
Spotted Towhee
MacGillivray's Warblers (my 200th Multnomah County bird!)
House Wren
Hermit Warbler
American Robin
I'll probably go back soon and keep up the hunt for grouse. Till then, check out this bone-filled pile of turds:

Sweet shots Jen, good luck with the Grousing.
ReplyDeleteGreat birds and sightings, Jen! My favorite is the Western tanager and the MacGillivray's Warbler. The Towhee is beautiful too. Great outing, happy birding.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 200 for the county! I always love a good MacGillivray's Warbler.
ReplyDeleteHope you have found that grouse. Do you ever encounter bird hunters on Larch Mountain? I would like to go birding but am worried about getting shot at.
ReplyDeleteNope. Never seen a hunter on Larch Mountain. May have heard gunshots before, but most areas say "no hunting" or "no shooting."
