Ridgefield 12-16-10

I went up to Ridgefield yesterday morning to celebrate the dry and sunny weather... The birds were partying like it was springtime.

Ring-necked Duck

The trail to the blind was particularly busy with little guys.

Black-capped Chickadee

 Fox Sparrow

 Golden-crowned Kinglet

 White-breasted Nuthatch

Brown Creeper

The blind itself was a bit ghostly.

Back on the road in the denser part of the trees were more little birds...

This Marsh Wren was posed so nicely except for that damn piece of grass catching the light on his back.  And this kinglet did not look real at first:

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

 Bewick's Wren

And a fairly cooperative harrier on top of it all!

And of course some purty swans...

On my way out a pair of river otters decided to make a break for it right in front of my car to the delight of the dogs...

A pretty good trip!!

  2. That otter shot is pure gold. How do passerines sit so still for you?

  3. Great set of shots Jen! A wonderful variety. I was out there too, on Friday but missed getting more of the super-small birds you got. Your harrier shot is awesome and the otter shot is hard to believe! Good stuff!

  4. Marvelous shots of so many small birds, Jen! They are so hard to get. I envy you your location. Here in the Northeast everything is frozen; the only bird activity is at the feeders.

  5. Nice assortment Jen! Great Creeper pic. They hard to keep up with.
