Virginia Lake.

I woke up this morning to find that not only was it warm-ish, it was also dry!  I mean, not raining.  Everything is still wet.  I decided it would be a good time to look for the Bobolink on Sauvie Island... Apparently quite a few other people had the same idea.  I met some very nice birders but I gave up after about 20 minutes and took the dogs over to Virginia Lake for a good and muddy walk.

I didn't take a ton of photos but I did see some kind of juvenile hawk- either a Sharpie or a Cooper's..

The trees were extremely active with chickadees, kinglets, and Bushtits.  I actually managed a decent photo of a Golden-crowned Kinglet:

Well, that was about it.  The rain picked up quickly so I kept my camera in my bag for most of the walk... Ah well, it was better than nothing!  Might head to Ridgefield this afternoon so stay tuned!

  1. More than decent on the Kinglet. Excellent photo! For some reason my photos of the golden always come out crappy. The raptor looks a bit soggy! Raining here too. It was beautiful yesterday, but had a bunch of errands to do so couldn't bird. Thanks for posting.

  2. Wonderful photos - I love the shot of the hawk , it does look soggy. Kinglets are my nemesis, tough shoots.

  3. awesome photo of the golden crown--We normally see more of the ruby crowned but this yr I did see one golden he was making such a fuss of seeing me walking the dogs, so i got a good look but no camera with me that day-COLD here today!

  4. Lovely shot of the Kinglet (so similar to our Goldcrest which never sits still for a photo!)

BTW I enjoyed the pics of the Bittern .. weren't you lucky to get so close.
