Headin out.

I'm heading out this morning to the fantastic land of woodpeckers in central Oregon for some camping and some birding.  While my camera battery charges I figured I'd throw out a few shots from Force Lake the other day...

Pied-billed Grebe

Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher (and Mallards & Coot on the log)

And from the yard the other day- a few crows sharing some mossy stuff.

Hopefully I will return from camping with some slightly more interesting birds to share... Good times!

  2. Aren't YOU the seasoned photographer, remembering to charge your battery BEFORE departure. =) Nice.

I, too, LOVE the shot of the young (and super stylish) grebe, love the frog shot, too. Here's one fm. wiki where a parent is feeding the young grebe a huge shrimp, and tho' I don't think the kid will be able to eat it, I bet it's pretty stoked! http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Pied-billed_Grebe_chick.jpg =)

At the grocery store 2 weeks ago I heard a crow call that sounded weird. Kinda off tune, a little weak, a little wandering. Just off. Before I looked up, I thought, "Juvenile, learning to sing?" And yes, perched atop a street light was a youngster with parent. So cute. Warmin' up those pipes! Getting that repertoire worked out. Happy travels!!
